Mission

The Department of Defense required a robust and future-proof optical transport network in the Pacific region to support critical communications infrastructure. The existing system faced performance constraints and lacked the scalability needed for next-generation network demands. CRS was awarded the Next Gen Optical PAC task order to deploy high-speed, secure, and redundant optical trunks capable of supporting DoD operations across multiple strategic locations.

Solution

CRS executed a large-scale deployment of 16 Ciena 6500 Optical Transport Network nodes and activated 32 100G optical trunks. The team leveraged an agile project management approach, ensuring compliance with DISA security and network standards. Risk mitigation strategies were implemented, allowing for rapid infrastructure deployment across 22 OCONUS sites without service interruptions.

Results

The project was completed nine months ahead of schedule and $1.2M under budget, allowing the DoD to reallocate funds to additional network expansion efforts. The new optical transport system significantly increased bandwidth capacity and improved network resiliency, positioning the infrastructure for future mission-critical expansions. DISA recognized CRS for its exceptional execution and cost efficiency.
